My passions are my young family – my husband and son – and my work: finding beauty and humor and honesty as it permeates all things. I use many methods to express myself: photography and digital art, painting, sewing, and creating unusual sculptures and jewelry with found objects.
In my early years, I lived with my parents and siblings on a remote piece of land in Northern New Mexico, filled with trees and wildlife. This extremely rural upbringing ingrained in me a true love of nature and the beauty of our world. Art and creative projects were always in progress at our house, and to this day a reverence of nature has a way of showing itself in my work. Many of my pieces also have scientific undertones, the direct result of my life science studies at the University of New Mexico.
In photography, I prefer, and gravitate towards, a photojournalistic shooting style. I love being outdoors and/or with natural lighting, however, I'll work in any situation, taking whatever we have to work with and getting the best images without a bunch of extra equipment. I work as simply as possible, so you won't find me lugging around tons of stuff.
I strive to get to know the people who are the subjects of my images, and try my hardest to capture certain gestures or mannerisms that define them.
I have a strange sense of humor and take pride in capturing any funny expressions that I see. A friend of mine whom I work with for artistic projects recently commented that she was making some weird faces in some of the shots – I replied that there are always weird faces, and it’s true. Embrace the weirdness. I guess that’s my motto. That and always find things to smile about.
That being said, interspersed within the oddities and the funny faces are some real gems. images so beautiful they take your breath away and you can just stare at them in awe. Those are the pictures that burn themselves into our souls. I am a hunter of those moments – waiting until the interplay between the shadows and light is perfect, and snap! There it is.
Hiking out in the snow to have a winter wedding? I’d be happy to tag along. Want to dress up like a moth and throw glitter around a light? I’m game. This is a fun, creative process in which we work together to create fantastic images!
I’m open to unique and unusual events. Let’s talk. There are memories out there just waiting to be captured and I want to work with you to make your image ideas a reality!
