Photo-a-day 2016: December...

1/4/2017
long exposure intersection at Central and San Pedro, 20 seconds
Day Three Hundred Thirty Six I've been doing lots of driving lately (I wasn't driving when I took this pic, though), so haven't had lots of time to take photos. Later in the evening on Thursday this last week, I got to be the passenger, so set up some long exposures on the dash. This one was the intersection at Central and San Pedro, 20 seconds.
long exposure Restaurant from the drive-thru; on my hand, on the dash - 16 seconds.
Day Three Hundred Thirty Seven Once again, not much time for photos. This was late evening, waiting to get dinner out. Restaurant from the drive-thru; on my hand, on the dash - 16 seconds.

Day Three Hundred Thirty Eight Wasn't overly impressed with any of my photos from today, so here's a fractal image I made instead ;p

McCurdy Charter School
Day Three Hundred Forty Two Visited one of my old schools to do some presentations. It looks pretty creepy in this pic, haha. In all fairness, this is back behind some of the less used buildings. It really hasn't changed much since I was there last, though they are in the process of building a new school to help with the increased number of students they now have.

Day Three Hundred Forty Eight Outreach today at my old school! The school is now only Pre-K thru 3rd grade. I did fractal presentations for the K-3rd graders, about 40 in total. The 3rd graders pictured here were discussing comma usage on my slide... haha

Spotlights on the Sandias
Day Three Hundred Fifty One You won't find me taking landscape photos within the city often... too many buildings, power lines, signs, etc, but I couldn't NOT take this shot, despite the houses in the foreground. Spotlights on the Sandias

Day Three Hundred Fifty Seven Visited the aquarium. Just in time for the feeding session in the big tank. The diver was feeding the stingrays and petting them just like huge, oddly-proportioned water puppies... cute :)

illuminated photo frame
Day Three Hundred Sixty Took some long exposure, trailing images of the lights on the way home, then messed around with the pics. This one looked like an illuminated photo frame. I'll probably use it as such in the future.

Day Three Hundred Sixty One Trying to get my old Nikon working again so the guys can use it on our upcoming trip. (I'll probably want to use it, too - the zoom is great, though I'm pretty spoiled using cameras with non-fixed lenses now.) Got the shutter working again, so took some of the shots and make kaleidoscopes out of them, though the aspect ratio is different than on my Sony, so the Photoshop actions didn't work quite the same, leaving spaces in between each quadrant. Still excited that the old camera is working again!

Day Three Hundred Sixty Three A little under the weather today, so just getting caught up on things in between resting. Didn't really take many photos today. Here's a modified 'White place' pic

2017, Day One Welcome, New Year! I'm going to be honest, I'm quite happy that the 2016 Photo-a-day has come to a close. I enjoyed the project. The biggest challenge most days was actually getting around to posting the images. These days, it is more important to me to spend time with my family than to get online and post stuff. While I'll more than likely be carrying my camera around with me mostly every day this year, I'm not going to post photos from each day. I'm going to focus on quality rather than quantity for 2017. I'm planning on pursuing my creative interests to a greater degree this year (hello, neglected painting materials...). I feel like this year is off to a great start: I got to hang up my new calendar that has some of my photos in it (and I didn't make this one :p), and we have a real family vacation planned for this month - celebrating both Mike's and my birthdays out of the country. My new, professionally designed photography service website will be ready to share very soon (!!!). I'm looking forward to trying out new culinary adventures throughout the year, and started it off right by making some mini avocado quiches for dinner tonight. I look forward to spending time with family, friends, and creative people this year, getting together and working on some great projects! -Emma
