New Wonders...

There was a new baby giraffe born at the Albuquerque BioPark a few weeks ago. I went to pay a visit last week, and just wanted to stay all day. The interactions between the new baby and its mother, older brother (still sharing the same enclosure), and the other unrelated females was charming to watch. The love and care was evident. I still have reservations about most animals being held in captivity, so have been having mixed feelings about the whole thing. On one hand, with the populations of wild giraffes declining, adding to the population is an important step in conservation, however, this new young one will probably never step foot outside of a zoo. The BioPark does have some amazing programs, though, and I love the gardens. It's hard to cut my ties completely.
