Meditations on Quarantine...
5/25/2020
While New Mexico hasn't been on lockdown, or a strict "quarantine" per-say, we've had a stay-at-home order in place since the end of March, and I've been staying home unless I work up the courage to go grocery shopping... I've tried to make monthly shopping trips - we've been shopping that way for a while, even before the pandemic, but especially now. I've had some time to reflect on my art goals, look through my photo archives, and made some quarantine dristhi out of images I took in and around my home during this time. One of the images was featured in an online quarantine art show. You can view the show here: http://quarantine.brackinworld.com/ There are some really incredible pieces of art on display in this show. I'm honored to be a part of it.
A little background:
In yoga, a dristhi is a point to set your gaze while in a posture, to help with proper alignment and centering. I began to make dristhi images a few years ago as a meditation tool to use during concentrated gazing. The central point of the images serves as a place to set your focus while remaining silent and still, for a few moments, or longer, as you like. I've made similar dristhi for friends suffering from loss or having difficult times, times when it's important to slow down and take things one day at a time. This is one of those times. Here are some of the dristhi I've made in quarantine.
