Just Like I'd Imagined It Would Be...

4/13/2020
We decorated eggs, and it was just like I'd imagined it would be. Or not. Instead of "instagram-worthy" pretty family moments, where we all posed perfectly with our perfect, fake eggs and smiles, we had lots of smashed eggs, spilled dye, and laughter. It was great. I love moments like those where I'm reminded to not take things too seriously, to laugh at myself, and just have some fun (breaking things or otherwise). My eldest son is keeping a sticker chart of my attitude - it's pretty complex, with different colors for different reactions to things - and I've been doing well so far, except for that one green sticker that I got for pouting at some point (which I don't remember doing, but I didn't want to argue about it, because then I'd for sure get an even worse-colored sticker for arguing). It has been helpful to me to realize that my two little guys (and even my one big guy-husband) are looking to me for cues on how to act, and if I react calmly, they often do, too. That sticker chart is helping me be a better person.
