Fairy Fauxtography...

5/16/2013
As a child, I was fascinated by the Flower Fairy books, illustrated and written by C.M. Barker. I’d  often imagine fairies out in our garden, and made many twig dolls to dress with various flower dresses and hats of leaves.

I still love Barker’s work to this day – it inspired in me a deeply engrained love of nature and appreciation for the little details of plants around me.

This is part of the new work I have been doing: fairy fauxtography – images inspired by nature and fairies.

Many of the images are directly related to a specific plant or tree, as the tulip fairy image, or the pine tree fairy image, below.

Cosmos, on two levels: this image was a commissioned piece; the flower choice was left up to me to decide, though I love for people to feel a personal connection to the plant or tree that they will be featured with.

Though all of the work has a whimsical feel to it, some images are on a more personal level: these I call the ‘Emanda Galatea’ series, in which my alter-ego, Emanda, lives out her far-fetched adventures.
