We took a trip up to Santa Fe to visit with visiting family. It was snowing... I'd worn no socks or jacket, so ended up with souvenir socks and a new poncho - LOL. We visited some museums and looked around some shops on and near the plaza. Despite our urging, we did not go back to visit Meow Wolf this day... though we would have if everyone had wanted to go.
![]() Day Ninety Six Things in drawers 1/7 Some years ago, I was in New York City for spring break, helping a longtime friend move back to New Mexico. There were four of us visiting. We each brought two empty suitcases with us, and each day, the suitcases were filled with some of the belongings that were being moved back to New Mexico. Each day was a different color day - and only the things those colors were packed that day. I also only (for the most part) took photos of things of the color of the day. Upon reaching the drawer in her nightstand, my friend told me the story of a photographer friend of hers who was documenting the things people have in a drawer. He would come to visit and lay out the things and photograph them. I was fascinated by the idea and the seed was planted. If you want your drawer photographed, haha, let me know :) It is a very personal thing, this photography. It is a study of what things we keep and why we keep them. ![]() Day One Hundred Things in drawers 5/7 LOL - this photo has given me more issues (it's that damn $5) - first, photoshop won't open it, because they don't allow editing of currency images, which I can understand, but then I couldn't even resize it, so I settled on a screen shot of the original image... Now facebook wants me to tag Abraham Lincoln... Ha ha ![]() Day One Hundred Three Roots I've been working outside in the yard mostly every day - the weather has been perfect for it - and have been focusing on taming the wild mustard. I love it, its spicy, beautiful yellow flowers, and the bugs like it, too. I just don't want my entire yard, front and back, filled with an immense mustard field, so I've been pulling some of them out, 'allowing' them to continue growing in some nice, select batches. This one was growing in the crack between the curb and the sidewalk, and the narrow space it had forced it to have a flattened root to fit. It came out in almost one whole piece. So here it is: roots. ![]() Day One Hundred Four Water drops on iris So, I have decided to abandon the 'seven-of' series in favor of the love of hunting the shadows and light. I initially had thought that having a weekly theme to focus on would make my work stronger, but I feel like it has done the opposite, in some ways. For example, I'd pretty much stop taking photos after I'd gotten the one that fulfilled the theme for that day, and it really was taking out the magic of looking for amazing photos, because I wasn't really looking, more like had blinders on. I'd much rather throw myself to the wind and take in what the day has to offer, and then offer up my best from that. So here it goes, like back at the beginning - a photo a day, the best of the day's unknown events... |
