10 Days of Me, Myselfie, and I...

1/7/2016
I was assigned a "selfie challenge" which consisted of taking 10 days worth of selfies, posting to social media, and "challenging" 1-3 others each day. I did take the photos, though I didn't challenge anyone else. I figured if they were interested in doing the project, they could decide to do it on their own. Spoil sport, I know.

Anyway, it was a relatively interesting project, in the sense that I realized that I have changed so much from when I first started taking photos (focusing almost entirely on myself - a perfect metaphor for my life!), and now I find it harder and harder to continually devote time to myself. I do feel like it was an appropriate project to link to my drishti jewelry - as the idea behind the items is to encourage the wearer to feel great in focusing on oneself from time to time.

Don't get me wrong, I like to take photos of myself from time to time, though every day for 10 days turned tedious. I do try to give myself attention, as I feel it allows me to be more present in my other relationships if I am feeling tip-top. I'm implementing a new morning routine that helps me feel balanced and centered and fulfilled - it gives me time to myself before the day with everyone else starts.

I did have fun with this series, and definitely had some unusual shooting going on ("Do you want me to grab the tripod from the car?" "No, I'll just use this banana"...). By the last day, I was definitely feeling done, and the child discovered how "fun" it was to make himself throw up by sticking his fingers down his throat as I was in the process of taking an uninspired selfie, so I called it quits.

Day 1

Visited Le Salon du Bodhi - I was given a very vigorous scalp 'massage' and an intense backcombing of the hair along with a beauty pep talk during which my stylist assured me that he was going to make my hair "big - like a tiger. With a slide." I suppose the curly part in the middle of my face was the 'slide' because he then ran his hands down that part several times saying 'Whee!'. Awkward, but Tres chic!

Mountains are a form of protection - a sentinel at our backs. I pay homage to our surrounding hills every day, though don't get to visit up close and personal as often as I'd like.

Though the sun was shining sometimes, it was still cold. Winter is a strange beast in the high desert. Some mornings I am outside in a short-sleeve shirt and the air almost feels warm, then the afternoon brings fridgid blasts of wind and snow...

Day 10 - FIN

Honestly, I was feeling pretty uninspired to take a picture of myself today. It is ironic, as I used to be my main subject for photos. I'm glad today is my last day of taking selfies for this series. I'm not saying I won't ever take photos of myself again, I just feel like there are other things I can focus on (in more ways than one ;) ). I'm starting another photo-a-day series today. The last one helped me grow as a photographer in so many ways - I'm hoping to learn a lot more this year.

Blessing for the New Year! Looking forward to all the amazing lessons it holds
:)
