Day 217: Celeryscape
"I'm afraid of losing my obscurity. Genuineness only thrives in the dark. Like celery."
"Take control of your destiny. Believe in yourself. Ignore those who try to discourage you. Avoid negative sources, people, places, things and habits. Don't give up and don't give in. Your life isn't behind you; your memories are behind you. Your life is always right here, right now. Seize it! Choose to let each of your experiences today be a gateway to an even brighter tomorrow."
"The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong at the broken places."
Day 220: What shall become of this? This mountain of cloth...
“Faeries, come take me out of this dull world,
For I would ride with you upon the wind,
Run on the top of the dishevelled tide,
And dance upon the mountains like a flame.”
― W.B. Yeats, The Land of Heart's Desire
"It isn't what they say about you, it's what they whisper."
Day 222: Red Tide of the Sky
"The time the moon is going back, the blood that is in a person does be weakening, but when the moon is strong, the blood that moves strong in the same way. And it to be at the full, it drags the wits along with it, the same as it drags the tide."
Day 223: Marigold Parade - Dia de los Muertos
Day 224: Camouflage
Mona Lisa Vito: What?
Vinny Gambini: Nothing. You stick out like a sore thumb around here.
Mona Lisa Vito: Me? What about you?
Vinny Gambini: I fit in better than you. At least I'm wearing cowboy boots.
Mona Lisa Vito: Oh yeah, you blend.
Day 225: Moon Child
'Tis midnight now. The bend and broken moon, batter'd and black, as from a thousand battles, hangs silent on the purple walls of Heaven.
Day 226: “If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?”
― Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass
Day 227: Made a batch of candied rose petals today - yum :)
“But he who dares not grasp the thorn
Should never crave the rose.”
― Anne Brontë
Day 228: "I remember when the candle shop burned down. Everyone stood around singing 'Happy Birthday.'"
Day 229: Galaxy Phoenix
Day 230: "The youth gets together his materials to build a bridge to the moon, or, perchance, a palace or temple on the earth, and, at length, the middle-aged man concludes to build a woodshed with them."
-Henry David Thoreau
"Stuff your eyes with wonder, live as if you'd drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It's more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories."
Day 232: Well, he's got the hair part covered so far...
"Hair is the first thing. And teeth the second. Hair and teeth. A man got those two things he's got it all."
“...in my dream the shadings of your soul are the dark tincture of rain...”
― John Geddes, A Familiar Rain
Day 234: Recycle Santa Fe Art Festival
"90% of every art form is garbage - dance and stand-up, painting and music. Focus on the 10% that's good, suck it up, and drive on."
Day 235: Edge of Winter - Winged Icicle Pendant
For my sister,
Born in the last shades of autumn
on the edge of winter...
You are a magical being
Blessed by many attributes -
Loving kindness, generosity, selflessness.
On many adventures through this life
We have flown -
I welcome and cherish your companionship
On countless more.
To an epic life!
“We live upon the contributions of our ancestors. Nature is a good scavenger. She soon gets rid of her rubbish.”
Day 237: Into the Woodlands and Windsocks...
Just before nightfall, six deer wandered into the yard next door to the house I was in. They walked around under the clothesline and windsock, and ate from the bird feeder before heading off into the dusk. For some reason, I liked this yantra of one of the photos better than any of the actual photos. You can see the little deer heads at the corners.
"There is a serene and settled majesty to woodland scenery that enters into the soul and delights and elevates it, and fills it with noble inclinations."
Day 238: ...and the desert sky opened up, and the water fell down...
“Tears are only water, and flowers, trees, and fruit cannot grow without water. But there must be sunlight also.”
― Brian Jacques
Day 239: The little tree, unnoticed
"Nobody sees a flower really; it is so small. We haven't time, and to see takes time - like to have a friend takes time."
What was whispered to the rose
To break it open
Was whispered to my heart.
Day 241: Golden Beet Topography
“Hidden in the glorious wildness like unmined gold.”
― John Muir
Day 242: “Before we invented civilization our ancestors lived mainly in the open out under the sky. Before we devised artificial lights and atmospheric pollution and modern forms of nocturnal entertainment we watched the stars. There were practical calendar reasons of course but there was more to it than that. Even today the most jaded city dweller can be unexpectedly moved upon encountering a clear night sky studded with thousands of twinkling stars. When it happens to me after all these years it still takes my breath away.”
― Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space
Day 243: Defrost
"From the first place of liquid darkness, within the second place of air and light, I set down the following record with its mixture of fact and truths and memories of truths and its direction toward the Third Place, where the starting point is myth."
